52 Week Project: Week 25
I took this picture out our bedroom window during sunset last week. Is it a remarkable picture? Not really. Technically brilliant? Nope (didn’t compose the shot to not include part of our house on the right nor did I crop it out). I do like the color and how it lights the bottom of the cloud though.
So what makes this picture part of the 52 Week Project? I just finished up Donald Miller’s book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Words and this quote from page 58 floored me:
“What I’m saying is I think life is so staggering and we’ve gotten used to it. We all are spoiled children no longer inspired with the gifts we’re given – it’s just another sunset, just another rainstorm moving in over the mountain, just another child being born, just another funeral.” (pg. 58)
How many shots have I passed up because it’s “just another sunset” or “just another sunrise” or “a nighttime picture of the moon and the stars over one of the lakes in BWCA last year because I was too lazy to get out the tripod I had dragged around with me for four days?”
I’m getting a headache thinking of the photographs I’ve passed up for pathetic excuses.

52 Week Project: Week 20
During some downtime during my trip last year to the BWCA, I found this flower while watching some of the guys fish. A macro lens would have been nice but would have added yet one more thing to bring in and a) I don’t own one and b) My waterproof bag is only so large.

52 Week Project: Week 18
Found this interesting looking iron fence in downtown Anoka the same day as this. I used the Antique present in Lightroom.

52 Week Project: Week 17
Went out one day a few weeks ago to hang out in downtown Anoka, MN with a buddy to shoot whatever we could find. This tunnel/steps combination caught my eye and ended up as one of my favorites of the day. I originally was going to go B&W but ended up using the Punch preset in Lightroom 2 instead.

52 Week Project: Week 15
This American flag is part of the Veterans Memorial Park located in Belle Plaine, MN. I really wanted a picture of the UH-1H Iroquois “Huey” helicopter but couldn’t get a good angle for the shot.
Not wanting to leave this hallowed place empty handed, I looked around and saw the wind whipping the flags around. I took a few shots, walked around and this happened.

52 Week Project: Week 12
Whenever I make it down to Omaha for work, I most always end my trip with dinner at Upstream Brewing. Besides very good beer, the food is not your typical bar spread but rather a vast range of comfort food (I recommend the pot roast). If you’re ever in Omaha, I highly recommend spending a night here.

52 Week Project: Week 8
We had some nice ice forming on the trees around our house a couple of weekends ago that I was able to shoot before they melted. This was one of my favorites even though I think this is a weed. I included a black and white version as well, which I like a little more.

52 Week Project: Week 7
Not sure why but I like this picture of a random field north of Bismarck, North Dakota.

52 Week Project: Week 6
I had to run to the post office one day and grabbed my camera as I headed out the door. I drove around my neighborhood and the surrounding developments looking for something interesting to shoot. The combination of the moon and the water tower behind the trees was at least semi-interesting.
