52 Week Project: Week 52
And so it is, we’ve reached the end of the 52 Week Project (more on that next week).
I was in Warroad, MN visiting some clients and found this great abandoned barn on the side of the road which just begged for me to stop and shoot (and freeze in the single-digit temps). While working on my composition, I noticed these two trees in the middle of the field with some interesting clouds.
Happy New Year and see you in 2011!

52 Week Project: Week 46
I spent a couple of days in North Dakota last week and on my drive back, stopped to enjoy the sunset. I found this railroad crossing and was taking a few pictures that didn’t turn out. I was too lazy to grab my 430EX and opted to use the on-camera flash of the 50D to experiment a little on the crossing sign.
I think at this point in my photographic journey, this sign represents a crossroads of sorts in figuring out what I want to do not only with this blog but with photography in general. More to come…

This abandoned building is located outside of Wakefield, MI on M-28 on the way to Bergland. Nature has taken control of it now as most of the windows have branches growing through them.

The leaves in the U.P. of Michigan were changing color in late September which provided ample opportunity for interesting subjects to photograph. I like how the dead trees split up the scene.

52 Week Project: Week 42
Two weeks ago, I was in Nebraska for work. As you travel west of Lincoln on I-80, there is an grouping of abandoned buildings on the north side of the road that just beg to be photographed. Alas, there isn’t a great angle from the road to shoot these and it’s private property (it looks abandoned) so I don’t have the opportunity to walk around and spend time photographing these interesting subjects.
Not wanting to leave empty handed, I drove around and found this gravel road with corn standing on both sides. While it wasn’t completely interesting, I found getting low to the ground and shooting towards the sun and producing some lens flare through the corn stalks produced some interesting photographs. (It was my first trip with my new camera and this is my first picture on the blog with it. Getting new gear can be fun but now I’m back to figuring out where everything is. Looks like I’ll need to spend quality time with the manual.)
I’m still hoping though to have an opportunity to photograph those buildings on my next trip.

52 Week Project: Week 41
I was in the U.P. of Michigan last month for work and the colors were starting to pop. I found this old truck on the side of the road and was fortunate enough to have some time to take some photographs. This one ended up being my favorite.

52 Week Project: Week 39
We attended a wedding a couple of weeks ago in Eau Claire, WI and stayed at the Metropolis Hotel which had a pretty cool decor package. The wallpaper pattern was perfect to have some fun with a shallow depth-of-field. I only had time for five shots as we had to check out and this was one of my favorites.

I’ve passed this car several times the past month and it just begged to be photographed. I shot it on a day when I was forcing myself to use only one lens so I had to adjust according to what that particular lens could do (which was good practice as I tend to drift to one or two lens that I have). I used the Antique Light preset in LR2.

52 Week Project: Week 34
I found this cool old building (established in 1908) in Superior, WI last month and loved the orange color. I spent sometime walking around and never could quite get the composition that matched my vision of what I saw. In the end, I grabbed a few photographs of the door.
I would like to say I have some profound wisdom about entering doors or that this symbolizes something but in the end, I just really liked the orange color.

52 Week Project: Week 26
Last week while out of town on visit, I drove through Hurley, WI. The weather was pretty miserable for a good part of the day and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to shoot. The monsoon stopped and the clouds broke up a bit allowing for some nice lighting. This is a cannon that sits by the downtown area and is a memorial to Sgt. Felix Obertone.
