52 Week Project: Week 47
I found this abandoned building while in Nebraska in October and was struck by how interesting it looked and the fact that the only clouds in Nebraska happened to show up for this picture (actually the only clouds I saw all week).

Back in July, I spent sometime up in Duluth, MN and drove up to Two Harbors to check out the scenery. Burton Forge is located in Knife River, MN and while they were closed, their building with the deep blue sky provided a nice photographic opportunity.

If a building is abandoned and I drive by it, chances are I’ll stop to photograph it. Taken the same day and location as the abandoned hotel. It’s only about 45 minutes from my house so I’m planning on going back to try to infuse some different exposures together.

52 Week Project: Week 33
While driving back from Walker, MN last month, I found this abandoned building south of Garrison (with a separate abandoned gas station as a bonus) which is pretty much a guarantee that I will stop and shoot. I used the Aged Photo preset in LR2 rather than B&W. I might have to go back sometime as I’m not quite satisfied with how the composition turned out.

52 Week Project: Week 32
While up in Duluth, MN, I spent one evening down at the Leif Erickson Park shooting. Across the street from the park is the Duluth Armory. For this photograph, I took the the exposure the camera came up with and then bracketed it by -2 and +2 and then infused the three images together using LR/Enfuse. I used the adjustment brush in LR2 to drop the exposure of the sky down a little more and boosted the clarity. It was a good experiment and one I’ll probably try a bit more of in the future (as you can tell, I need a little more practice w/the Adjustment Brush.)

52 Week Project: Week 29
This was taken during an overnight stop by Hurley, WI (same night as this one). I was messing around with a circular polarizer to enhance the sky a bit and had a few shots that turned out okay however with this version, I opted to use LR2 instead to get the same effect. Now I just need to get rid of the power lines.

52 Week Project: Week 23
While cruising through North Dakota for work a couple of weeks ago, I found this abandoned gas station between Devils Lake and Jamestown (IIRC, it was in Sheyenne). It would be interesting to go back and see if I can find out some of the history of this little building and the stories it could share. I used the Aged Preset in Lightroom rather than just go with black and white.

52 Week Project: Week 14
I was in Le Center, MN for work last month and spent time in their downtown area. What struck me was the architecture of the buildings and the fact they were built to last. This is the First National Bank building which was built in as you can guess, 1903. There is nothing technically brilliant about this shot but it was one that made me pause and think about all the great stories this building could tell.
Exposure: 1/400 sec, Aperture: f/5.6, Focal Length: 300mm, ISO 100

52 Week Project: Week 9
While traveling through Aitkin, MN last summer, I spotted this new church that was just built (Saint James Catholic Church). I stopped by and shot a few frames. Most of the images were pretty forgettable but this one drew my eye with the road leading to the church.
